manifest destiney-The 19th-century doctrine or belief that the expansion of the US westward

throughout the American continents was both justified and inevitable

- there is a star on her forehead, “the star of empire”
- star used to symbolize the spread of establishment and american ideology
- holding a school book
- educating the unenlightened masses
- holding a telegraph wire
- spreading new technology to the west
- horizontal plains:
- backgound is uncivilized
- middleground is the indians being chased away
- foreground is people living in the new country
- vertical plains:
- left, dark, indians and bison, covered wagon
- right, light, enlightenment, technology, trains, brookland brige
- negative view of manifest desteny:
- inspired fear, imposing our rule
